Models will change. The institutional knowledge they depend on should outlast them.
Most enterprises have a roadmap for changing models, platforms, and providers. Far fewer have one for preserving the knowledge those systems depend on.
Where does institutional knowledge live? Who owns it? Can its provenance be traced, and will its governance survive a platform change? Can a new model inherit the same organizational context without forcing the enterprise to reconstruct it?
Those questions reveal whether the organization is protecting an accumulated asset or repeatedly attaching memory to temporary technology.
If the enterprise replaced its primary AI platform tomorrow, how much organizational understanding would move with it — and how much would have to be rebuilt?
